Toolbox FAQs

1. Are your toolboxes made in New Zealand?

Yes, our heavy duty Roadrunner toolboxes are proudly manufactured in New Zealand. We also offer our Coyote range, manufactured off shore to Roadrunner specifications. These imported boxes are built to a higher standard than most products currently available in the NZ imported market, while remaining a cost effective option.

2. Do you manufacture both aluminium and steel toolboxes?

Yes, we manufacture both aluminium toolboxes (light weight and corrosion resistant) and Steel Toolboxes (maximum strength and durability).

3. Can toolboxes be customised to fit my specific vehicle tray or canopy?

Absolutely. Custom fabrication is our speciality. Every vehicle, trade and fleet requirement is different. We design and build custom toolboxes to suit: Utes, Service Trucks, Canopies, Heavy Transport, Civil and Construction Vehicles, Rural and Agricultural Vehicles, Marine applications.

4. Are internal dividers, shelves, or compartments available?

Not a problem at all. This will help you get the most from your investment.

5. Can toolboxes be designed to suit specific tools or equipment?

Sure can, and to go one step further we can offer such things as foam tool inserts to stop your tools moving around.

6. What should I consider when choosing latch styles, hinge types, or locking systems?

In NZ, as we all know, we can have four seasons in one day, experience tells us that often requirements vary. We have found the Roadrunner manufactured boxes as a standard exceed the torment NZ can throw at them. Roadrunners Trade Mark Continuous Hinge is the envy of many suppliers, and proven to be the most reliable hinge out there. However, it's important to consider application and style, for example, things such as security may require central locking and vehicles with existing toolboxes may want to keep a similar style. In the South Island, ice can be a problem so its important to ensure the latches do not freeze. Our team knows the ins and outs and the do's and don'ts, and will happily discuss and design solutions that will exceed expectations.

7. How much weight can your toolboxes safely carry?

There is no 'one size fits all' weight rating. Load capacity depends on: Mounting method, box design and length, door configuration, internal structure, vehicle chassis layout. We can help design the box and mounting solution together to safely support your intended load.

8. Are your toolboxes weather and dust-resistant?

Yes, our drain system and sealing surfaces take care of it.

9. How secure are your locking systems?

Our locking systems are predominantly key lock, we can provide central locking and combination locking if required. If you have a unique situation requiring something different we can accommodate that also.

10. Are your products suitable for off-road or rural use?

100%

11. Will a toolbox affect my vehicle's payload or balance?

Adding anything to a chassis system will affect weight and potentially balance. Balance and centre of gravity should always be a consideration, this is where design, experience and advice are key to ensuring products are fit for purpose.

12. Can your products be removed or transferred to another vehicle later?

Certainly! This often happens across our product range due to the longevity of what we make.

13. Can I order replacement parts or accessories separately?

Sure can! We stock parts for all Roadrunner manufactured products as well as Coyote imported products.

14. How long should a quality toolbox last?

This depends on application and environment. It is not uncommon for a 10 year old box to come back to us for a new door to tidy up.

15. What size toolbox should I choose for my ute or truck?

This depends on application and how you need it to work for you. Our stock range is our most common sizes.
