As a veterinarian with a referral equine dental practice, Lizzi Thompson understands the benefits of keeping horses safely contained and supported during complex procedures, that’s why she designed Equi-Still Portable Equine Stocks.

Equi-Still Portable Equine stocks feature a padded metal frame with quick-release features to safely support sedated horses during treatment. They fold up for transport to wherever they are needed.  Mounted on the frame are heavy duty Roadrunner storage boxes, providing easy access and safe storage for medical equipment.

Originally from the United States, Lizzi regularly used equine stocks while she was in veterinary school, and while working as a technician in the Large Animal Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at University of California, Davis. Once in New Zealand, she initially made do without stocks but a shift to more complex dental and surgical procedures prompted her to create a portable version that she could take with her to treat horses on site. 

After Lizzi approached ten different engineering firms to complete the work, Jeff Miller from trailer manufacturer Mills-Tui agreed to engineer the Equi-Still Portable Equine Stocks in his spare time, using Lizzi’s concept designs.

The stocks require heavy duty metal storage boxes to transport gear and equipment. 

Jeff suggested Lizzi engage with Roadrunner to complete this part of the build. “Jeff told me I needed Roadrunner boxes because they’re the best, and they are. They’re brilliant.” Lizzi said.

Jeff had previously worked with Roadrunner and knew they could provide a product that would stand up to the job. The first set of stocks using Roadrunner aluminium boxes was registered in 2010. Thirteen years on, they are still the preferred box supplier for Equi-Still Portable Equine Stocks.

Lizzi compared other New Zealand made boxes but found the Roadrunner boxes stood out for their superior quality. “The quality is exceptional. Steve, my contact there, is fantastic to deal with. He’s done what he’s said he’s going to do, and patiently listens to what I’m saying. Steve sends the drawings for approval before the build starts. He’s responsive and gets the job done. The product coming from the factory is unparalleled. I’ve never seen better.”

Lizzi is prepared to pay for a product she knows is fit for purpose,“If you want top quality, then you need to pay for it. As long as you’re willing to pay for quality, you can’t do better.”
